“gaslit hypnotists” by our artist gilf! 48”x96” black dibond with spray paint and markers. available for viewing and purchase at the causey contemporary gallery. here is the artist’s statement for this piece:
“throughout the course of human history, imperialism has been predominantly a governmental ideology. with the advent of the industrial revolution imperialism and has expanded its reach into the private sector and our allegiances have followed. those who work tirelessly to campaign for these groups ask us to trust their product, trust your representative, trust their values. in bewildering context, these commands are force fed to society through a barrage of advertisements and product placement. ironically, those who produce these messages are also adversely affected by them. these gaslit hypnotists have had the wool pulled over their eyes so that they can do the same to us. the blind leading the blind are being led in fact by the ever-present dollar. in the visual context, “gaslit hypnotists,” displays a dizzying command in parallel with the hand selected messages that corporations use to penetrate the viewer’s psyche. within the background of the piece, behind the noise, behind the subliminal; is a demand to look beyond the forceful constructs and move towards personal independence from the habitual confines of modern day culture. without this abrupt change, society will continue blissfully down the path of complacency while shedding all ability to maintain even a semblance of control.”
